What is Google Glass?



Google Glass is a wearable computer with an optical head-mounted display that is being developed by Google in the Project Glass research and development project, with a mission of producing a mass-market ubiquitous computer.  Google Glass displays information in a smartphone-like hands-free formant, that can communicate with the Internet via natural language voice commands. What does it do?

Using voice commands, Glass will do the following hands-free!

Basic functions:

  • take a video
  • Google information, pictures
  • get directions
  • make a call
  • send a text message
  • make a call
  • make a video call (Google Hangouts)
Then there are several apps that you can load to utilize it even more!

  • Post pictures to Facebook
  • Post status/pictures to Twitter
  • Cook using recipes onscreen
  • Golf
  • Listen to Google Play music
  • Running/Biking
  • YouTube
  • text translator
  • Evernote
  • Games
  • Stopwatch
  • Breaking news from CNN or NY Times

How can I get one?

Right now, Google Glass is in beta-testing.  You have to apply to be a part of the Glass Explorer program and be accepted.  Glass is not available to the general public right now.
